Acholi Machon – Sons of South Sudan

Acholi Machon hail from the youngest nation on earth, South Sudan, and to celebrate the nation’s 10th anniversary of independence on 9 July, they will release their new EP Sons of South Sudan on the same day

Acholi Machon is Gaitano Otira and Cornelio Odong, who both play lokembes (acoustic thumb pianos) and their duelling lokembe playing has become a staple feature of their music.

‘Sons of South Sudan was produced by Grammy -winner, Ian Brennan (Tinariwen, Zomba Prison Project, Malawi Mouse Boys, Ustad Saami) and features startling experimentation that teeters towards psychedelia.

Their debut album, Lapwong (2014) – also produced by Brennan – was the first album of widely distributed songs in the Acholi language and they were fortunate enough to be able to bring their music to the UK when they played at WOMAD in 2015.
